Kiwi Pollen Blower

Kiwi Pollen has developed a dry pollen applicator that can pollinate up to a hectare of canopy per hour.

The Kiwi Pollen Blower consists of a motorised air blower, a pollen dispenser and a battery pack. The blower is driven by 2 stroke petrol engine and delivers a constant stream of air from the delivery tube. Pollen is introduced into the air stream from a small, battery-driven, pollen dispenser. During flowering, the operator walks or drives through the orchard with the delivery tube pointed into the canopy.

The Kiwi Pollen Blower:

• can apply either pure pollen (100 %)
• or diluted pollen (75 pollen:25 diluent w/w)
• can be adjusted to deliver different rates of pollen or pollen mix, from 250g per hectare to 750 grams per hectare

Trials in New Zealand show a 30% increase in fruit weight.

• Applied at 500 grams pure pollen per hectare
• Applied at 90 - 100 % of flower open.
• Each application requires 1 - 2 man hours per hectare
